Green Building Technology

Where deep green building experience drives technology innovation
Founded in early 2000, the Western North Carolina Green Building Council has lead the charge for making green building mainstream in the mountains of North Carolina. Through the locally developed NC Healthy Built and the LEED standards, WNC has more green built units per capita than any other region in the Southeast. Today, in addition to WNCGBC, the region is home to another green building education and capacity building group, the Southern Appalachian Sustainable Building Council.
This deep experience in building green has resulted in significant intellectual property that WNC companies are now commercializing as new green building products and services. From high-performance wall systems to efficient lighting to carbon-neutral building methods, the WNC green building community is turning experience into new scalable product and service businesses.
With buildings accounting for 70% of electricity consumption and responsible for 40% of carbon emissions nationally, improving the performance and sustainability of our built environment will be one of the top national and global challenges for decades to come. WNC is well positioned to not only continue to lead the way in the adoption of green building practices, but also to continue to develop as a home to innovative green building technology companies.
